Introduction to the Department of Critical Care Medicine
The Department of Critical Care Medicine (Central ICU) at the Affiliated Hospital of North Sichuan Medical College was established on October 26, 1998. It was the first comprehensive ICU in northeast Sichuan. It has since evolved into the Intensive Care Medicine Department of Sichuan Medical Center, a large-scale intensive medical center in northeast Sichuan, the training base for intensive care specialist nurses in Sichuan province, the graduate education base for intensive care nursing, a member unit of the Critical Care Medicine Alliance of West China Hospital of Sichuan University, an excellent quality control unit of critical care medicine in Sichuan province, and the leading unit of the Intensive Care Medicine Alliance in Northeast Sichuan Province. In February 2023, the Department of Critical Care Medicine was successfully approved as a "Key Clinical Specialty of Sichuan Province". Over the past 20 years, through coordinated development in medical, teaching, research, and management, the hospital has established a critical treatment system with the critical care department (the central ICU) as the core, including 9 specialized wards such as Neurological ICU, Neurosurgery ICU, CCU, Cardiothoracic Surgical ICU, PICU, and others. These nine ICU wards collaborate and each has its own unique characteristics, serving as the core platform for the treatment of critically ill patients in the Affiliated Hospital of North Sichuan Medical College and in Sichuan Province. They have played an important role in various public health emergencies in the province and the country.
The medical team currently consists of 3 chief physicians, 3 associate chief physicians, 8 attending physicians, 3 resident physicians, 3 respiratory therapists, 1 clinical pharmacist, and 2 rehabilitation therapists.We have 31 beds and international first-class organ function monitoring, support, and treatment equipment worth more than 10 million yuan. Over 1,000 critically ill patients are admitted every year. The department has the capability to fully implement the technical projects of provincial clinical key specialties and has continuously explored and made breakthroughs in actual clinical work, successfully accumulating many specialized characteristic technologies.In the face of SARS, avian influenza, Streptococcus suis infection, influenza A, earthquake relief, and COVID-19, the critical care team has consistently been at the forefront, playing an incredibly important role and earning recognition and praise from both the public and the government. The team has been awarded numerous honors.
